No-exam life insurance

Details on accelerated underwriting criteria, the process itself, and what changes if you don't qualify.

Many carriers now feature accelerated underwriting: those within specific age and benefit limits get decisions based on application answers, pharmacy records, and driving history—not a medical exam. Approval decisions frequently arrive the same business day. This website's quotes clearly show whether an exam is needed, might be required, or isn't necessary for each product.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting still includes verification of your application. A policy written on false information can be disputed within the initial two-year period. Should carrier investigation turn up concerns, an exam or additional testing might still be required; at that stage you can decide whether to continue.

Who tends to qualify

Candidates generally under age 60, applying for benefits within a carrier's accelerated limits, with a clear health history and no tobacco in at least the past year, qualify most often. Recent medical work with bloodwork may be acceptable to certain carriers in place of a new exam.

Medical exams, when required, are typically a 20 to 30-minute visit from a paramedical examiner—at your location in the San Mateo area, at no cost to you. For many applicants in good health, exam results actually improve their rate class, so an exam isn't necessarily bad.
